Getting Out of The Hole

My struggles are exactly what I’m meant to overcome so that I can “send the elevator back down.”

LDS Church (Daniel in the Lions’ Den)

Whatever hardship I’ve encountered was meant for my body, mind, and soul to suffer so that on the other side of it, I can gain some precious knowledge necessary to be able to level up in this game of life. I didn’t know how much being poor sucked until I was forced to live out of my car. Sitting at the bottom long enough for me built upward momentum because it required that I build a foundation for understanding what it took to stand up in the world and begin digging myself out of that hole.

On digging out of holes.

Stop digging and get quiet. So quiet that you can hear the sounds of abundance above you. So quiet that when you automatically respond negatively to those sounds, you can recognize your own bodily reactions to those sounds.

When you finally quit reacting to the commotion around you, only then are you able to start making suggestions. If you want to expedite the extraction from the hole rapidly, then call out for help with genuine honesty and remorse for your actions up until this point. If you don’t have a history of crying wolf, there is always someone near you looking to raise others to their level. However, if you’re too prideful or have a history, life is going to require that you buck up and pay the bill. That means building brand new habits from scratch without any help from mentors or a circle of support. This isn’t impossible, but it is much more difficult.
